‘Cats open season with close win / Boys golf

Led by Nick Krantz and Haven Brown, the Oak Harbor High School boys golf team opened the season by eking out a one-stroke victory in the Purple Cup Monday, March 12, at the Whidbey Golf Club.
The Wildcats finished with 445 strokes, one better than Lake Stevens. Edmonds-Woodway tallied 457 and Shorewood 464.
Krantz picked up medalist honors with a three-over 75, three shots ahead of Brown, who tied for the second-best round.
Nick Whitley shot 85, Nate Thompson 94, Wyatt Bright 113 and Billy Titzkowski 113.
“I think we could have shot even better, but I was really happy with the results,” Oak Harbor coach David Smith said. “I saw a lot of potential, (and I am) looking forward to this year.”
