The trip to the state tournament passes through Whidbey Island this week.

Baseball

The Coupeville High School baseball team (11-8) hosts the first round of the District 3 1A tournament when it meets Bellevue Christian (7-10) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, in a loser-out game.

The winner advances to play Nisqually League champion Seattle Christian (15-2) at Curtis High School a 4 p.m. Thursday, May 11, in the four-team, double-elimination portion of district.

In the other half of the bracket, Chimacum (7-7) plays at Cascade Christian (10-3) Tuesday. That winner meets Olympic League champion Klahowya (10-5) Thursday at Charles Wright Academy.

The tournament concludes Saturday at CWA; three teams advance to the regional tournament.

Track

Oak Harbor hosts the seven-team North Division championship meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, and 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 12.

Unlike regular-season meets at Wildcat Memorial Stadium, admission will be charged for this event: adults, $6; students with ASB cards and seniors, $3.

Wednesday’s action will include finals in several field events and preliminaries in most running events. The remaining finals will be held Friday.

The top seven finishers in each event qualify for the district meet May 17 and 19 at Shoreline Stadium. The eighth- and ninth-place marks in the North will be compared to the results of the same places in the South divisional meet to determine two more district qualifiers.

The top-four finishers at district earn state berths.
