Doubles teams help lift Wildcats to win / Tennis

A sweep of the doubles matches spurred the Oak Harbor High School tennis team to a 5-2 season-opening win over visiting Mount Vernon Tuesday, March 14.
Emma Wezeman and Emily Brown took first doubles 6-3, 7-6(3), 1-0; Maddie McKenzie and Sarah Smith rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win in second doubles; and Meng Juan Timm and Alyssa Schneider teamed up for a 6-1, 7-6(5) win in third doubles to lead the Wildcats.
Aelizah Espiritu (6-2, 6-2) and Emma Lerch (6-1, 6-2) collected wins in second and fourth singles to finish the Oak Harbor scoring.
Tamia Rios (6-0, 6-4) and Peyton Carlson (6-4, 6-0) fell in first and third singles.
Oak Harbor goes to Edmonds-Woodway at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16.
