North Whidbey Aquatic Club’s Haley Borja posted a nationally ranked time on the way to winning four events at the Bluefins Invitational Feb. 11 and 12 in Bainbridge Island.

In all, the Blue Heron won 17 events, four each by Borja, Kiersten Tyson and Kyle Coonan.

Borja won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:19.38, the 17th-best time in the United States by a 9-year-old this season.

That feat earned Borja NWAC Swimmer of the Meet honors.

Other event winners for the Blue Heron were Lindsay Brown, Lola Chargualaf and Jillian Pape.

Coach Dick Taylor gave the NWAC Fast Swims of the Meet Award to Chargualaf (200 free, 2:20.31), Tyson (100 backstroke, 1:14.04) and Leylah Dominguez (200 free, 2:43.05).

MWAC Most Improved Swimmers of the Meet were Madelyn Coonan, Cassidy Drown, Julian Paraiso and Alani Vanderbilt.

“Each of these four swimmers showed significant improvement across the spectrum of all events swum,” Taylor said.
