Continuing its dominate reign the Olympic League, the Coupeville High School girls basketball team clinched its third consecutive conference championship with a 41-26 win over visiting Klahowya Tuesday, Jan. 24.

The Wolves have yet to lose a game in the three-year history of the Olympic League 1A division, running their conference win steak to 24 games with three left this season.

In addition to wrapping up the league championship, the Wolves earned the top seed into the district tournament, jumping to the double elimination portion of the playoff.

Coupeville opens district play at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Bellarmine Prep. The Wolves will need to win two to advance to the regional tournament.

Before heading into the postseason, Coupeville plays five more regular-season games.

The Wolves host Chimacum (2-4, 9-8) at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, and Klahowya (0-5, 3-12) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in a pair of conference games.

In the win over Klahowya Tuesday, Coupeville put in another blue-collar effort, controlling the boards and working hard on defense.

Seven different Wolves scored, paced by Kailey Kellner with 11 points, as Coupeville took leads of 13-2 and 25-10 after the first two quarters.

After a ragged third period that saw the Wolves get outscored 10-6, Coupeville quickly silenced any Eagle comeback bid early in the fourth quarter.

Kellner started the period by hitting two buckets, one a three-ball, then Mia Littlejohn mirrored Kellner and the Wolves led 41-20.

Coupeville coach David King praised the work of Littlejohn, noting how junior point guard involved everyone in the offense before looking for her own shot.

King also liked the rebounding and defense of Lindsey Roberts. The sophomore post pulled down 11 rebounds, five at the offensive end.

In all, Coupeville collected 35 rebounds. Kellner grabbed seven and Lauren Grove five.

Littlejohn, Grove and Roberts all had three assists; while Kellner recorded four steals and Kalia Littlejohn 3.

Kellner finished with 18 points, Mia Littlejohn 7, Roberts 6, Mikayla Elfrank 3, Grove 2, Allison Wenzel 2, Tiffany Briscoe 2 and Kalia Littlejohn 1.
