Taking advantage of Oak Harbor’s shooting woes, the Marysville Getchell High School girls basketball team methodically pulled away for a 58-24 win Wednesday, Jan. 15, on the Wildcats’ court.

Oak Harbor couldn’t get its shots to drop, scoring in single digits in every quarter, and lost its ninth straight game, eight in conference.

The Chargers (5-2, 10-5) led 10-4, 27-12 and 41-19 at the quarter breaks. MG used runs of 9-0 in the second quarter and 10-0 in the third to pad its lead.

“The big thing tonight is that we missed a lot of layups,” Oak Harbor coach Jon Atkins said. “We executed our offense, got good looks but the ball wouldn’t go in.”

Bryn Langrock led Oak Harbor win 14 points although she didn’t hit her first hoop until the final minute of the first half. She connected on three three-pointers in the game.

Rashanna Graham and Julie Jansen each scored 4 points; Mikhaela Cortez had 2.

Atkins lauded the play of Cortez: “She must have had at least 10 rebounds. She has also played hard on defense all year.”

Marysville Getchell suited up only eight players and all scored.

Oshinaye Taylor, who scored four times on put-backs and exploited the Wildcat defense by setting up in the short corner, led all scorers with 18 points. Gabrielle Grandbois and sister Madeline Grandbois scored 11 and 10 points respectively for the Chargers.

Oak Harbor (0-8, 3-13) goes to Everett (1-7, 2-14) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, and then plays its final home game against Marysville-Pilchuck (0-8, 0-15) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3.
