Lynnwood, which placed third in the state 3A girls basketball tournament last season, put its returning talent on display in a 73-37 win over visiting Oak Harbor Wednesday, Dec. 14.

“I thought we played better than the score indicated, but we just had some tough defensive moments,” coach Jon Atkins said. “They started hitting threes in the third (quarter) to blow open the game.”

The Royals offense was in high gear, scoring at least 15 points in each period to lead 15-8, 36-15 and 53-27 after the first three quarters.

Lynnwood (1-0, 3-3) had six players score 8 or more points, led by Kaprice Boston and Taylor Fahey with 12 each.

Five Royals combined to hit eight three-pointers.

Bryn Langrock sank three three-balls to lead Oak Harbor with 9 points. Rashanna Graham scored 8, Julie Jansen 7, Mikhaela Cortez 5, Jordan Pina-Wood 5, Samantha Hines 2 and Lydia Wells 1.

The game was the Western Conference opener for both schools.

The Wildcats (0-1, 2-4) face another tough challenge when they host Snohomish at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16. The Panthers (1-0, 5-0) finished second in the state in 4A last winter and are unbeaten and ranked sixth in the state this season.
