Ferry rates hiked for summer

Motorists will see higher fares when they ride ferries beginning Sunday.

Peak season for Washington State Ferries starts May 1, which means an additional 25-percent surcharge will be applied to full fare vehicle/driver fares on most routes in the system.

For riders using the Port Townsend to Coupeville route, motorists will see fares climb from $9.35 per car and driver to $11.90 per car and driver.

On the Mukilteo to Clinton route, motorists will see fares climb from $7.20 to $9 per car and driver.

Passenger fares and frequent user multi-ride fares will remain the same.

People riding the Anacortes to San Juan routes will see a 35 percent increase.

The peak season starts Sunday and continues through Sept. 30, which is a change from previous years. Back then the peak season would end the second week in October.
