Three Oak Harbor wrestlers place at Walley tournament

Three Oak Harbor wrestlers placed at the Spud Walley Invitational Tournament at Sedro-Woolley Saturday.
Colton Elliot was the top Wildcat performer, earning second place in the 140-pound class.
Brandon Stratton picked up fourth place at 145 pounds, and Corey Trimbur earned fifth at 103.
As a team, Oak Harbor placed 12th out of 18 with 57 points. The tournament was won by the state’s top ranked 1A team, Orting, with 241.5 points.
Oak Harbor returns to league action against Snohomish here Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m.
Elliot reached the finals at the Walley tournament with a pair of pins (3:21, 4:49) wrapped around a close decision (4-3). In the finals he lost to Garrett Mann of Orting 3-1.
Mann, a two-time state champion, is ranked No. 1 in Washington in the 135-pound class. Elliot is ranked sixth at 140.
Stratton won his first two matches, a 6-4 decision and a pin (3:45) before dropping his last two by pins (1:16, :15).
Trimbur opened the tournament with a 14-2 major decision, but then dropped into the consolation bracket when he lost by a pin (2:56). He then recorded three straight wins: an 11-1 major decision, a 6-0 win, and a pin (1:28).
While the Wildcat varsity was competing at the Spud Walley meet, the JV team took part in the Panther Classic in Snohomish. Josh Barton won his division and David Payne placed third.
