Hoopsters raise funds for Habitat

The opposition may not have been exactly Seattle Supersonics caliber, but it didn’t make any difference to the happy crowd of fans at Oak Harbor High School’s gymnasium Monday evening when the local Habitat Hoopsters squared off against the Harlem Ambassadors in a fundraising basketball game to support the Habitat for Humanity of Island County.

In the spirit of the famous Harlem Globetrotters the six-person Ambassador’s team, comprised of former collegiate players who are pursuing careers ranging from acting to police administration, put on quite a show.

It wasn’t all slam dunks and three-point shots, either.

Younger fans in the audience were treated to a game of musical chairs after the first quarter of action, with the winner earning an autographed Harlem Ambassador’s team photo.

Then it was who could put their basketball shoes on the fastest and then shoot the ball through the hoop.

Of course the “pros” won the game but nobody really cared what the outcome was.

It was an evening of fun and entertainment for everyone and most importantly, a money maker for Habitat for Humanity of Island County.
