OH Legion AA sweeps aside Everett

Eight players were missing from Oak Harbor’s Legion AA baseball lineup Saturday afternoon, but it didn’t matter.

With the help of Legion A players, the Wildcat squad defeated Everett in two non-league games, 11-2 and 2-0.

Pitchers Andrew Bighouse, Daniel Lura and Marcus Naymik dominated game one, allowing just five hits and no earned runs.

The pitchers also provided the power at the plate.

Lura was 2-for-2 with an RBI double and a two-run home run. Naymik was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI and Bighouse was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Ben Wolfe added an RBI base hit along with two runs scored.

Oak Harbor didn’t have as much offense in game two, but it continued to dominate with pitching. Bryan Hornbaker and Lura allowed only three hits and no runs over seven innings. Hornbaker pitched six of those innings and surrendered only two hits.

The Wildcats scored the first of their two runs in the first inning. Casey Larson led the inning off with a single and Naymik doubled him home. Larson drove in the final run in the fifth on a two-out RBI single that scored Chris Reilly.

“I was really pleased with our pitching and defense throughout the day,” Oak Harbor coach Jim Waller said. “We gave up only two runs, both unearned, had only one error, and our pitchers walked just three in 14 innings.

We were missing most of our more experienced players who were at football and basketball competitions, and our young kids made the most of their opportunities and played impressive baseball in both games.”

Oak Harbor improved to 7-2 overall with the victories. They are 3-0 in league play.

The Wildcats played a doubleheader at Anacortes last night and host Anacortes in a single league game at 6:30 p.m., tomorrow, June 15. They have another doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., Sunday, June 18 at home against Bellingham.
