Wayne and Aida Martin extend thanks to their loving friends and neighbors for their concerned phone calls and prayers following Angela Martin’s head-on motor vehicle collision, Feb 18. Angela is slowly recovering after a seven day stay at Harborview Medical Center, sustaining multiple facial and cranial lacerations, contusions, concussions, and fractures, perforated small intestine, and a ruptured kidney. They say their entire family is blessed.
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Joshua B. Foy, whose wife Diana is the daughter of Debra and Robert Ewing of Oak Harbor, recently returned home from a routine, scheduled deployment while assigned to the guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg, homeported in Mayport, Fla.
Navy Lt. Cmdr. Marvin H. McGuire, IV, whose wife Victoria is the daughter of Marianne and Carlton Taylor of Oak Harbor, also recently returned home with the Gettysburg, .
During the deployment, the Gettysburg supported the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise by protecting it from air, surface and subsurface threats. The crew of Gettysburg also participated in community relations projects in Bahrain.
Whidbey Island Writers’ Association honors young authors this month.
Manuscripts submitted to the Celebrate Writing Young Authors’ Contest debuted at the Whidbey Island Writers’ Conference, March 6 and 7, where writers from throughout the U.S. are invited to comment on them. The manuscripts will then be on display at Sno-Isle branch libraries through March 31. Oak Harbor and Coupeville students’ work will be in theirrespective libraries. South Whidbey manuscripts Grades K-5 will be in Freeland and Grades 6-12 in Langley.
Entries from Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades are on display, but not judged.
