Grab your cookies

Girl Scouts out with their cookies beginning this weekend. As part of their annual fund raiser, girls take orders from family and friends early in the year. But if you didn’t order any, relax — the green-suited go-getters will be all over with their baked goods through March 16. Who can resist a box of Thin Mints, all dark and crisp, or Ole Oles’ with their lime and coconut whisking you to the Caribbean warmth?

Get your mouths ready for a classic. Trefoils, the buttery cookies that burst with “Girl Scouts!” will be available once more. These shortbread cookies were concocted especially for the Girl Scout Cookie Sale in 1917. The recipe for this and all the other cookies may be found at www.girlscoutstotem.org.

This year, Girl Scouts have added a new flavor to their cookie sale. And it’s one that doesn’t carry any calories.

During the sale, girls will ask customers to purchase additional boxes of cookies to share with someone who is unable to purchase cookies themselves. Each troop has chosen a local charity to support. Saturday, March 22, girls will deliver Gift of Caring packages to charities in their community.

So even if you are on a diet, you can buy as many boxes of Do-Si-Dos as you want without guilt and without facing extra exercise.
