Oak Harbor High School volleyball coach Kerri Molitor received a glimpse of the future when her team competed at the 16-team Wenatchee Invitational Tournament Saturday, Oct. 11.

The Wildcats were missing five seniors who were taking the SAT, leaving Oak Harbor with only one.

The short-handed Wildcats placed third in their pool to Chelan, ranked ninth in the 1A state poll, and 4A Jackson.

From there, Oak Harbor finished second to 4A Kamiak in a playoff between all third-place teams.

With a chunk of her players missing, Molitor and the Wildcats were forced to play “different systems than what we have been practicing,” she said. “Some of the girls rotated into different positions than they have been playing.”

Since she was playing mostly underclassmen, the tournament, Molitor said, “was a great preview into next year.”

Oak Harbor (5-2, 5-4) goes to Marysville-Pilchuck (4-3, 6-3) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14.
