The Coupeville High School track team picked up a win from an unusual source at the 21-team Bellevue Christian Invitational Saturday, May 2, at Interlake High School.
The Wolves’ lone win came in a special event, the boys throwers’ relay. Coupeville’s Kenny Johnson, Grey Rische, Mitchell Losey and Jesse Hester won in 50.23.
Lathom Kelley placed second in the 300 hurdles (41.52) and fifth in the 110 hurdles (17.58). He was also fifth in the 4×100 relay (45.65) with Jared Helmstadter, Jacob Smith and Connor Thompson.
Thompson was fourth in the high jump (5-06) and eighth in the triple jump (36-08.5).
Dalton Martin finished fifth in the discus (129-11) and eighth in the shot put (40-04).
Helmstadter rounded out the top-10 finishes with a seventh in the 400 (55.09).
The Coupeville girls were led by their relay teams.
Marisa Etzell, Kirsten Pelroy, Sylvia Hurlburt and Lauren Grove finished second in the 4×100 (52.59) and third in the 4×200 (1:51.36).
Hurlburt added a fifth in the 200 (27.48), and Lauren Bayne was sixth in the 300 hurdles (57.86) and 3,200 meters (13:46.42) and seventh in the high jump (4-04).
Skyler Lawrence placed eighth in the shot (29-09.5)
Next up for Coupeville is the Olympic League Championship meet at North Kitsap at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9.
