Wolves win 2, set up showdown for 1st place / Tennis

After sweeping two matches at Klahowya Thursday, April 26, the Coupeville High School tennis team now faces a battle for first place when Chimacum comes to town at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the regular-season finale.

The Wolves are 4-1 in Olympic League play; Chimacum, which takes on Klahowya (0-5, 1-12) Tuesday, is 3-1.

Even if the Cowboys are upset by the Eagles, Coupeville will still need to beat Chimacum to win the title outright and claim its fourth straight conference crown.

Chimacum and Coupeville split their first two meetings this spring. The Wolves won 5-2 April 13 and then fell 4-3 April 24, their first-ever league loss since joining the conference four years ago.

Coupeville defeated Klahowya 4-3 and 5-2 Thursday; the first match was the completion of a contest stopped by rain April 17 with the score tied at 2.
