Zander Clouse tossed a five-inning one-hitter as his Archbishop Murphy High School baseball team beat Coupeville 11-1 in Everett Wednesday, April 10.

The Wolves scored their only run on their only hit. In the fourth inning, Aaron Curtin singled in Morgan Payne who got on board on an error and stole second.

Clouse struck out nine and helped out offensively with three hits and four RBI. Coupeville coach Willie Smith called Clouse the best pitcher his club has seen this spring.

Smith said, “It was an interesting feel to the game, we were more focused and had much more energy [than Monday’s loss] but made too many ill-timed errors and didn’t get the little things done to put us in a position to win.”

He added, “In spite of the two lopsided losses, we feel like we can compete, and if we play like we are capable of playing, pull one out on Friday. If nothing else, we are determined to give them a tough one.”

The defending state champion and second-ranked Wildcats (11-0, 12-1) return to Coupeville (4-7, 5-7) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 12.
