Wolves shine in first home meet / Track

Home, at last.

The Coupeville High School track team, however, finished no where near last in its first home meet in five years. The Wolves’ boys team took first and the girls second in the five-school contest.

Running, jumping and throwing at their new facility for the first time, the Coupeville boys tallied 93 points, finishing ahead of Port Townsend (86), Mount Vernon Christian (76), Klahowya (56) and Chimacum (27.

MVC won the girls meet with 112.75 points, followed by Coupeville (101), Klahowya (64.25), Port Townsend (49) and Chimacum (21).

Danny Conlisk powered the boys by winning the 400 (53.54) and 800 (2:09.99) meters. Other winners for the boys were Jacob Smith (100, 11.59) and Chris Battaglia (discus, 105-04.5).

Skyler Lawrence (shot put, 30-10.5) and Cassidy Moody (high jump, 5) picked up wins for the Coupeville girls, as did Lindsey Roberts, Mallory Korteum, Maya Toomey-Stout and Lauren Grove in the 4×100 (52.69).

The Wolves also piled up 13 second places: boys — Smith (200, 23.12), Cameron Toomey-Stout (high jump, 5-04), Mitchell Carroll (pole vault, 8-06; triple jump, 39-11), 4×100 (Jacob Martin, Cameron Toomey-Stout, Kyle Burnett, Connor Thompson, 48.77) and 4×400 (Smith, Ariah Bepler, Cameron Toomey-Stout, Conlisk, 3:46.38); girls — Korteum (300 hurdles, 51.37), Emma Smith (shot put, 27-11.5), Lawrence (discus, 78), Allison Wenzel (javelin, 83-06), Grove (triple jump, 30-03.5), 4×200 (Grove, Maya Toomey-Stout, Kortuem, Roberts, 1:51.51) and 4×400 (McKenzie Meyer, Lauren Bayne, Madison Rixe, Aurora Zanardi, 4:58.97).

Coupeville, North Kitsap and Sequim go to Olympic at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 12.
