The Coupeville soccer team put up another strong defense effort but King’s squeaked out a 1-0 win over the Wolves in Shoreline Tuesday, April 17.

Coach Paul Mendes said, “We are making progress on the level of our play, and we are closing the gap on these power teams.”

Mendes said his back four “held up very well,” but the Knights hit the net in the 27th minute.

Coupeville pressured King’s (7-3, 7-5) throughout the second half and Mendes was pleased with the quality of his team’s passing and possessions.

The Wolves (3-6, 4-6) just missed on two scoring opportunities in the second half. Jeremy Copenhaver was stopped from close range in the 60th minute, then with five minutes left, Brett Arnold’s volley “whistled by the left post,” Mendes said.

Coupeville plays at Friday Harbor in a nonleague match at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 18.
