Wolves lose twice / Soccer

After scoring 14 goals in its first five matches, the Coupeville High School soccer team went into an offensive slump and dropped three matches.

The latest two losses were 3-0 to Port Townsend Friday, March 31, at Mickey Clark Field and 5-1 at Vashon Island Monday, April 3.

“Last Friday was an off day for us,” coach Kyle Nelson said in regard to the conference loss to Port Townsend. “We just had a hard time getting things right. (We had) too many unforced errors.”

Although the Wolves fell in the non-league game to Vashon Island, they played “much better,” according to Nelson.

“All aspects of the game were working much better,” he said. “We are back on track, improving in each game.”

William Nelson’s “nice delivery” on a corner kick resulted in a “beautifully finished” goal by Ethan Spark for Coupeville’s score at Vashon.

The Wolves are focusing on returning to league play next week and will “enjoy some solid practice time the rest of this week,” according to coach Nelson.

Coupeville (1-2, 2-5-1) plays at Chimacum (0-3, 1-5) at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11.
