Visiting South Whidbey remained at the top of the Cascade Conference tennis standings by defeating Coupeville 5-0 Tuesday, April 22, then host Granite Falls moved ahead of the Wolves with a 4-3 win Wednesday, April 23.
Coupeville (1-4, 3-6) will attempt to get back in the win column when it completes its four-matches-in-four-days stretch by hosting Lakewood (0-5) at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24.
Coupeville lost all but one match in straight sets to South Whidbey (5-0, 7-2).
In second doubles, Samantha Martin and Sydney Autio went the distance before losing 6-2, 3-6, 8-10.

Singles: Allie Hanigan lost 7-5, 6-1; 2, McKenzie Bailey lost 6-1, 6-1.
Doubles: 1, Samantha Martin/Sydney Aparicio lost 6-1, 6-1; 3, Valen Trujillo/Micky LeVine lost 7-5, 6-1.
Against Granite Falls (2-3, 2-6), the Wolves played without their top player, Hanigan, who had a prior commitment. The absence of Hanigan added depth issues when the teams played a seven-match format rather than the usual five-match set up.
Jacki Ginnings, who just came back from an illness, fought hard but got tired in a 6-2, 6-2 first singles loss, according to coach Ken Stange.

“It was a fun win for Wynter,” Stange said. “It was her first ever singles match and she made the most of the opportunity.”
In junior varsity matches, Bree Daigneault and Jazmine Franklin played sets against two different opponents and won both, 9-8(7-3) and 8-4.
