Wolves blank winless PT / Softball

Compassionate Coupeville defeated the visiting Port Townsend High School softball team 11-0 in five innings Wednesday, April 26.

The win set up a first-place showdown for the Wolves in Chimacum at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 28. The two teams are tied for first in the Olympic League with 4-1 marks.

The Cowboys handed Coupeville its only loss in 14 games this season, dumping the Wolves 15-4 April 12.

Chimacum (6-3 overall) suffered its first conference loss Wednesday, falling 8-4 to Klahowya.

Coupeville 11, Port Townsend 0

Wolves coach Kevin McGranahan started six reserves against the Redhawks, who are slogging through a disastrous run.

Port Townsend has lost 47 straight, including 10 this year. To make matters worse, PT has scored only one run all season.

The Redhawks’ 11-0 loss to Coupeville was their closest game in 2017; they lose by an average of 16.

The Wolves beat Port Townsend 21-0 March 31.

In Wednesday’s game, Katrina McGranahan and Scout Smith combined to no-hit the Redhawks. McGranahan struck out four in two innings and Smith five in three frames.

Coupeville scored one run in the first when Lauren Rose reached on a fielder’s choice and eventually scored on a passed ball.

In the second, the Wolves scored twice behind a hit by Melia Welling and walks to MacKenzie Davis, McGranahan, Tamika Nastali and Emma Mathusek.

Walks to Sarah Wright, Kyle Briscoe, McGranahan, and Nicole Laxton led to two runs in the third.

The patterned continued in the fourth. Smith was hit by a pitch and walks to Mikayla Elfrank, Briscoe, Davis and Robin Cedillo pushed in two more runs.

Coupeville closed out the scoring with four runs in the fifth. Nastali was hit by a pitch, Mathusek singled, Smith doubled, Elfrank walked and Briscoe doubled to fuel the uprising.
