Abraham Leyva Elenes scored two goals and keeper Joel Walstad and the Coupeville defense shutout visiting Friday Harbor 3-0 Tuesday, March 18.

The win helped first-year coach Kyle Nelson pick up a victory in his varsity coaching debut.

“The boys played hard and came away with a well deserved win,” Nelson said.

Leyva Elenes scored midway through the first half, knocking in a rebound off a shot by Sean Donley.

The Wolves, though they had several opportunities, didn’t score again until late in the match when Zane Bundy found the net on an assist from Aaron Wright.

Leyva Elenes added his second goal during stoppage time.

Nelson said Walstad “played well in goal” and that Donley, Brett Arnold and Jared Dickson were key contributors in the win.

Coupeville begins conference play at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, with Cedarcrest (0-1) at Mickey Clark Field.
