The Oak Harbor offense struggled early but eventually found its rhythm to back a strong pitching performance by Danny Wolfe in a 6-0 win over the visiting Mariner High School baseball team Wednesday, March 24.

Wolfe finished with a five-hitter, striking out five and walking only one. He also paced the offense, going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

The Wildcats led only 2-0 going into the sixth inning, then tacked on four runs to give Wolfe some breathing room.

Mariner (0-4) threatened early. The Marauders’ leadoff hitter singled to start the game but was erased with a double play.

Mariner then loaded the bases with no outs in the second inning, but Wolfe fanned two and induced a fly ball to get out of the mess.

The Marauders only other serious threat came in the seventh when the first two batters reached base. A double play and strikeout preserved Wolfe’s shutout.

Oak Harbor scored it first run in the third inning. Quentin Tungate walked, stole second and scored on a two-out single by Wolfe.

In the fourth, C.J. Meders singled and was forced at second on a grounder by Preston Rankin. Rankin scored on a double by Tyler Snavely.

Meders started the sixth-inning rally by being hit by a pitch. After he was balked to second, he scored on a single by Steven Richards. An error, hit batter and singles by Snavely, Kevyn Johnson and Wolfe plated three more runs.

Snavely finished 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI.

Kevyn Johnson reached base four times with two walks, a hit by a pitch and a running scoring single.

The game was originally schedule for Tuesday but was postponed because of a wet field.

Oak Harbor (1-1) travels to Monroe (0-2) for a 4 p.m. game Friday, March 27.
