The Whidbey Island Running Club opened the developmental meet season Saturday, May 22, at West Seattle Stadium against nine other teams.
WIRC picked up first places from Ryan Vasileff (boys 9/10, 1,500, 5:39.4) and Laura Rodeheffer (girls 11/12, 800, 2:41.85).
WIRC coach Catie Rodeheffer said the next developmental meet is June 12 at Bellevue’s Sammamish High School. These meets lead up the Junior Olympic series, the largest in America, June 26 and 27.

Sub-bantam girls (7/8): Emily Lamb, fourth, long jump, 4-04.
Sub-bantam boys: Justin Vasileff, fourth, long jump, 7-02.

Coach Rodeheffer said the WIRC will compete through August, taking part in all-comers meets on various Mondays in Bellingham as well as the Junior Olympic series. She said it’s not too late for newcomers to join; she can be reached at 279-2196.
