The Whidbey Island Running Club’s 11/12 girls team won its division in its final tune-up meet at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle Saturday, Oct. 30.

WIRC coach Catie Rodeheffer said the course was “a slippery, muddy mess” as it rained hard the entire day. However, it gave the club an opportunity to run the course that will host the Junior Olympic qualifying race Nov. 13 for all Washington runners. The top 35 individuals and three teams from each age group qualify for the regional finals in Oregon City, Ore., Nov. 20.

The WIRC sent three teams and eight individuals to last Saturday’s race.
