Needing a psychological boost, the Oak Harbor High School volleyball team received just that with a feel-good 3-0 win over visiting Marysville Getchell Thursday, Oct. 24.

The 25-14, 25-9, 25-10 win also boosted the Wildcats’ post season hopes. Oak Harbor (3-5, 3-10) is tied with Shorecrest (3-5, 4-9) for the seventh and final playoff berth going into the season’s last regular season game.

The schedule favors Oak Harbor as its finishes at Marysville-Pilchuck (1-6, 2-10) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Shorecrest has to travel to first-place Mountlake Terrace (6-1, 9-3) Wednesday.

If Oak Harbor and Shorecrest finish in a tie, the Wildcats hold the tie breaker because they beat the Scots 3-1 Oct. 3.

Oak Harbor knew going into the Getchell match that it should breeze through; the Chargers (0-7, 0-12) are winless this fall and have won only one set.

Wildcat coach Kerri Molitor said her team struggles more emotionally than physically and needs to believe in itself. She saw that in the win over Marysville Getchell.

“We were relaxed and confident; we need to play that way all the time,” Molitor said.

Kayleigh Harper dominated the match with 15 kills, nine aces and three blocks. Claire Anderson chipped in with eight kills, six aces and 12 digs.

Hailey Beecher finished with 27 assists, and Natalie McVey had 11 digs.
