The Oak Harbor High School boys golf team won the final Wesco North regular season match Monday, May 4, at the Cedarcrest Golf Course, knocking off Stanwood for the first time this spring.
Stanwood collected wins in the previous five Wesco North matches, but the Wildcats eked by the Spartans 430-432 Monday.
The Spartans, however, won the regular season title; Oak Harbor finished second.
In Monday’s match, Arlington finished third (440), followed by host Marysville Getchell (462) and Marysville-Pilchuck (483). Everett did not qualify for a team score, although its one golfer, Cody Boll, took medalists honors with an even-par 72.
“They (Stanwood) had a few players blow up, and my guys played really steady on some firm and fast greens,” Oak Harbor coach David Smith said. “Raiden (Poe) played really well with only a couple bad holes. Everyone had to adjust to the greens quickly, so I was proud of them for posting the scores they did.”
Poe led Oak Harbor with an 80, the day’s third-best score. Mason Dieter shot 84, Steven Timm 85, Aaron Kelley 90, Ben Fikse 91 and Nick Whitley 109.
Now the Wildcats will head to the divisional tournament at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Everett’s Legion Memorial Golf Course.
