Wildcats whip Warriors / Softball

The Oak Harbor High School softball team scored seven runs in the first inning and then played add-on in an 18-8 thumping of host Edmonds-Woodway in five innings Monday, April 1.

The win was the Wildcats first in three Wesco games this spring.

Oak Harbor mixed nine hits with 15 walks and four errors to trample the Warriors.

The big first inning set the tone early as the first eight Oak Harbor batters reached base. The Wildcats opened the game with walks to Sam Scott, Miranda Wilson and Cierra LeGendre. Scott scored on an error, Wilson stole home and LeGendre scored on Kayla Crocker’s single.

Maddy Tucker followed with a double, and she and Crocker both scored on passed balls.

Madisyn Erbe walked and Kait Scheer and Ceirra Dean were hit by pitches to reload the bases. After two outs, Wilson singled in two runs.

The Warriors scored three times in the bottom of the first, and then after a scoreless second inning, Oak Harbor added six more runs in the third. Dean and Abigale Fierro walked, then they scored on singles by Wilson and LeGendre. Crocker and Tucker walked, the second forcing in a run. Erbe plated a run on a groundout, an error scored Crocker and Tucker stole home.

Oak Harbor took a 17-3 lead with four runs in the fourth inning. Scott walked and scored when LeGendre reached on an error. Crocker tripled in one run, and walks to Tucker and Scheer loaded the bases. Walks to Dean and Rinka Tsutsumi forced in two runs.

The Wildcats tallied their final run in the fifth when Miranda Wilson tripled and stole home.

Wilson finished with three hits, three runs and two RBI. Crocker had two hits, three runs and two RBI, while Tucker added two hits, three walks and three runs.

LeGendre and Emily Wilson collected the other Wildcat hits.

LeGendre pitched the first three innings for the win, giving up only two hits. Emily Wilson finished the game in the circle and surrendered just one hit in two innings.

Oak Harbor (1-2, 3-6) hosts Archbishop Murphy (1-2, 3-5) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 2.
