After dropping the first two contested weight classes, the Oak Harbor High School wrestling team reeled off seven consecutive wins to topple visiting Mount Vernon 46-24 Thursday, Dec. 6.

A pin in 60 seconds by Cody Fakkema (132) and a 10-6 win by Jahleel Vester (138) tied the score and started the seven-bout winning streak.

Jacob Fitzgerald (145) followed with a wild 16-11 win and Mark Johnston (152) took only 13 seconds to record a fall.

Joshua Crebbin (160) captured a major decision 14-2, and C.J. Shavers (170, 1:23) and Jon Lanningham (182, :32) finished the streak with a pair of pins to make it 40-15 and put the match out of reach.

In the remaining bouts, Jeremy Alonzo (195) lost 3-1, Ray Quinday (220) won by a fall (1:51) and Tyler Adamson (285) lost by a pin (3:35).

Oak Harbor coach Mike Crebbin said the two teams matched up well with two of his strongest wrestlers, the Vester brothers, lined up with two of Mount Vernon’s top athletes.

“It was nice to come out with a win with Jahleel.”

He was also pleased with the overall performance of his team which faced a stiffer test from the Bulldogs than the Wildcats faced in the season opener last week with Arlington.

The competition should pick up another notch, coach Crebbin said, when the Wildcats (2-0) and Mount Vernon (1-2) meet Glacier Peak and Meadowdale at 5:30 p.m. in a double dual meet Thursday, Dec. 13, in Oak Harbor.
