Wildcats take 5th at Battle of the Axe / Boys wrestling

The Oak Harbor High School boys wrestling team finished fifth at the 13-team Battle of the Axe dual tournament Saturday, Jan. 4, in Port Angeles.

“(It) was a great tournament,” Oak Harbor coach Larry Falcon said. “We were able to see some great wrestling from that side of the state.”

The Wildcats opened the tournament with a 55-23 win over Fife, lost to eventual champion Forks 52-24 and then nipped North Mason 37-36.

In the match for fifth place, Oak Harbor topped River Ridge (Lacy) 40-24.

The Wildcats return to Wesco action when they travel to Marysville Getchell for a 5:30 p.m. match Thursday, Jan. 9.
