Wildcats take 2nd in 3-team meet / Cross country

The Oak Harbor High School cross country teams finished in the middle of a three-team meet at Marysville-Pilchuck Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Shorewood won both the girls and boys races.

The Thunderbirds beat Oak Harbor and M-P in the girls race 27-41-67 despite the Wildcats’ Natalie French and Evelyn Osburn capturing the top two spots.

Shorewood stopped Oak Harbor and the Tomahawks 22-33-84 in the boys race.

The Wildcats head to Bellingham’s Civic Stadium to take part in the 43-team Sehome Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

Wednesday at Marysville-Pilchuck, French finished first over the 2.01-mile course in 13:51, one second ahead of Osburn.

Shorewood took seven of the next eight places to secure the team title.

Oak Harbor’s third runner, Courtney VanGiesen, finished 11th (15:16). She was followed by Sadie Harbaugh (14th, 15:33), Joelyn O’Hara (19th, 15:45), Jessica Aguilar (24th, 16:29), Paige Jenkins (29th, 17:17) and Keilani Marriott (34th, 19:04).

Shorewood’s Alex Panteleeff won the boys race in 11:14.

Oak Harbor’s Cooper Billiter next in 11:34.

The Wildcats’ Ryan Metz was fourth (11:34), and Jacob Pearson (11:46), Brandon Parham (11:49) and Miles Erickson (12:13) finished 8-9-10.

Others among the top 20 Oak Harbor finishers were Anthony Herrera (12th, 12:21), Michael Abunimeh (21st, 13:26), Tyler Johnson (22nd, 13:28), Harrison Keating (25th, 13:38), Ian Ramos (29th, 13:56.2), Isaiah Hurley (30th, 13:56.4), Thomas Mayhew (38th, 14:36), Colin O’Hara (41st, 14:44), Riley Hoover (43rd, 14:56), Hunter Hogarth (46th, 15:15), Joey Roundtree (47th, 15:19), Jermaine Denmon (49th, 15:27), Kyle Guevarra (52nd, 16:16), Andrew Lof (54th, 16:16) and Gavin Clark (56th, 16:44).
