The 2013-14 swim season shot off to a good start for Oak Harbor High School as the Wildcats won the season-opening double-dual meet Wednesday, Dec. 11, at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.

Oak Harbor knocked off Snohomish 99-84 and Glacier Peak 113-54.

Caley Powers won two individual events (50 free, 25.94; 100 butterfly, 1:02.62) and the 200 medley relay (2:03.87) with Cedric Cabigting, Micha Geist and Joe Gorman to lead the Wildcats.

Cabigting added a win in the 100 backstroke (1:09.64) and Dakota Powers took the 100 free (1:04.65).

Oak Harbor coach Alex Thierry said, “It went well, but we still have a lot of work to do if we want to do as good a job as last year.”

He added, “It was a wake-up call for some of our JV swimmers who thought swimming was going to be easy.”

Oak Harbor (2-0) hosts Monroe (1-1) at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16.
