Conference play got off to a great start for the Oak Harbor High School tennis team when it upset Everett 4-3 Friday, March 25, at Clark Park.

Oak Harbor went to Everett with only one win in its first six matches. The Seagulls were 3-1, and that lone loss was by one point to unbeaten 4A Cascade.

The Wildcats collected two wins in both singles and doubles to win the Wesco North opener for both schools.

The No. 1 and 2 singles matches were taken by Tamia Rios (6-3, 6-3) and AnnaBelle Whitefoot (6-1, 6-0).

Elma Marie Empinado and Ria Bains were 6-4, 6-3 winners in second doubles, while Emma Wezeman and Emily Brown captured third doubles 6-2, 6-1.

Oak Harbor (1-0, 2-5) takes on Stanwood (1-0, 1-3) at home at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29.

Singles: 3, Lauren Aspery lost 6-3, 6-1; 4, Peyton Carlson lost 7-6(2), 6-4.

Doubles: 1, Brianne DeGuzman/Aelizah Espiritu lost 6-1, 6-1.
