Wildcats stop T-birds, begin postseason play / Volleyball

Building some momentum for the playoffs, the Oak Harbor High School volleyball team finished the regular season with a 3-1 win over visiting Shorewood Tuesday, Oct. 30.

The win wrapped up the No. 4 seed and an opening round home match in the district tournament for the Wildcats.

Oak Harbor (11-3), which finished third in the Wesco standings, will host fifth-place Meadowdale (9-6) in the district opener at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6.

The Wildcats squeaked by the Mavericks 3-2 in the first contest of the season Sept. 6.

The tournament will also include the 3A’s top ranked team, Ferndale, and fourth-ranked Snohomish.

Two loser-out matches will be played Thursday, Nov. 1, and the two survivors will join six others, including Oak Harbor, in the eight-team, double elimination portion of the tournament.

The district tournament will continue Thursday, Nov. 8, and Saturday, Nov. 10, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. Four teams will advance to the state tournament.

Oak Harbor 3, Shorewood 1

The Wildcats won 25-21, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22 over the Thunderbirds (6-8).

Oak Harbor received strong all-around games from Cami Bristow (12 kills, 16 digs, three aces), Morgan Pease (19 kills, nine digs, 1.5 blocks) and Leah Quidachay (42 assists, 13 digs, six kills and one ace).

Ceirra Dean had 14 digs, two kills and an ace; Payton Parks had four kills and four aces; Leielle Salinger collected eight kills and 1.5 blocks; Jaslin Webster chipped in with eight digs; and Gredina DeGuzman served a pair of aces.
