The Oak Harbor and Lynnwood high school soccer teams fought to a 1-1 tie in the Western Conference opener at Lynnwood Friday, March 27.

Playing in tie games has become a habit for the Lynnwood this spring. The Royals (0-1-4) have finished all-even in four of their five matches. For Oak Harbor (0-4-1), the tie was a relief after dropping its first four matches.

Alex Waner, with an assist from Kurtis Zylstra, helped Oak Harbor go up 1-0 10 minutes into the second half.

The Royals’ Dane Evanger scored with 12 minutes remaining in the game.

Two five-minute overtime periods failed to produce a winner.

Jared Hoyt manned the goal for Oak Harbor; Gerry Reyes had Lynnwood’s net.

“It was a very fast-paced game, and I think we were very evenly matched,” Oak Harbor coach Brian Thompson said. “I was very proud of how the players worked together to move the ball and make runs off the ball.”

Oak Harbor hosts Arlington (2-0-2) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1.
