Wildcats lose two / Softball

The Oak Harbor High School softball team lost twice this week, one a nail-biter and the other one-sided.

Shorewood out-slugged the Wildcats 15-14 Tuesday, April 25, at Shoreline’s Meridian Park, then visiting Everett rolled by Oak Harbor 16-4 in five innings Wednesday.

The Wildcats (1-12, 1-14) head to Arlington (4-8, 4-10) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 28, for their next game.

Shorewood 15, Oak Harbor 14

First the Wildcats erased a five-run Thunderbird lead and then lost a seven-run advantage as Shorewood (1-10, 1-12) picked up its first win of the season.

The T-birds scored three unearned runs in the first inning and then added single runs in each of the next two frames to go up 5-0.

The Wildcats, who managed only one base runner over the first three innings, erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth on two hit batters, two walks, an error and Ciera LeGendre’s single.

After Shorewood regained the lead, 7-5, in the bottom of the fourth, Oak Harbor continued its offensive momentum with nine runs in the fifth.

The Wildcats slugged eight hits in the inning, including a triple and single by Halle Carpenter and two singles by Brooke Wilson and LeGendre. Audrey Howard and Miranda Wilson also singled.

After cramming all of its hits and runs into two innings, Oak Harbor’s offense went silent once again.

Shorewood scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 14-13, then tallied twice in the sixth to win it.

Oak Harbor put two runners on in the seventh but couldn’t push across the tying run.

The Wildcats committed eight errors and only three of Shorewood’s runs were earned.

Everett 16, Oak Harbor 4

Oak Harbor bunched all four of its hits — singles by Brooke Wilson, LeGendre, Carpenter and Megan Flood — in the first inning and scored three runs.

Their final run came in the fifth when Howard walked and scored on an error.

Everett (8-4, 9-5) scored in every inning and finished with 15 hits, six for extra bases.
