Winning 10 of 12 events, including grabbing the top two spots in six, the Oak Harbor High School swim and dive team swamped Stanwood 120-56 Monday, Oct. 6, at John Vanderzicht Pool.

Mollie Briddell (100-meter freestyle, 1:06.45; 100 backstroke, 1:14.57) and Jillian Pape (diving, 177.25; 100 butterfly, 1:14.03) were double winners in individual events for the Wildcats.

Briddell finished a perfect evening by adding two relay wins. She joined Taliah Black, Lauren Vagt and Molly Vagt to take the 200 medley relay (2:15.73); and Marissa Morris and the Vagts to win the 400 free relay (4:42.18).

Pape helped Oak Harbor sweep the relays, teaming with Erica Sugatan, Morris and Molly Vagt to capture the 200 free relay (2:20.46).

Morris (200 free, 2:21.7), Sophie Dickinson (50 free, 33.26) and Black (100 breaststroke, 1:22.6) rounded out the individual wins for the ‘Cats.

Oak Harbor coach Erin Bull is pleased with the effort and times of her team so far this fall even though illness has slowed a number of the Wildcats.

Oak Harbor has earned a bushel of district-qualifying times and is closing in on some state times, with an emphasis on the relays, Bull said.

The 200 free relay squad is two seconds off a state mark, according to Bull, and the 400 free team is four seconds back.

She likes the attitude of her athletes and their willingness to try new events.

“They are really determined,” Bull said, “and working hard to achieve PRs.”

Oak Harbor (5-1) competes at Snohomish (3-5) along with Glacier Peak (4-4) at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14.
