Mountlake Terrace used two big innings to top the host Oak Harbor High School softball team 15-0 Friday, April 18.
The Hawks (2-2, 5-6) pushed across four runs in the fourth inning build a 7-0 lead.
Oak Harbor has shown improved defensive play lately but committed a costly error in the seventh inning that allowed six unearned runs to score.
In all, only five of Mountlake Terrace’s runs off Oak Harbor pitcher Kat Martinez were earned.
Tricia Sarns collected Oak Harbor’s only hit and played “terrific defense,” according to coach Todd Showalter, including pulling off an unassisted double play.
Oak Harbor “showed more signs of improved play,” Showalter said. “We only had one hit but hit the ball hard a few times and cut our strikeouts to five.”
Oak Harbor (0-5, 1-10) goes to Meadowdale (5-0, 7-2), the first-place team in the Wesco South, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 22.
