A disputed call marred an outstanding effort by the Oak Harbor High School soccer team as the Wildcats lost to Wesco South’s first-place team, Glacier Peak, 3-2 Wednesday, April 3, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

With the score tied at 2, Oak Harbor’s Isaiah Trower,  heading the ball out of the penalty area, was undercut and taken down, according to coach Brian Thompson.

Trower, however, was called for the foul and Glacier Peak awarded a penalty kick. The Grizzlies’ Connor Seed slipped the shot by Kevin Silveira for the winning goal with seven minutes left.

GP (4-0-1, 4-3-1) stunned Oak Harbor (2-3, 3-4) with a goal in the match’s first 35 seconds. The Wildcats responded with two goals to take the lead.

The first came in the seventh minute by Gavin Stewart, and the second seven minutes into the second half from Matt Jensen with an assist from Caley Powers.

Glacier Peak’s Peter Bizzoni hit the equalizer, his second goal, with 12 minutes left.

Thompson said, “We played with a lot of heart and never gave up. We now are looking forward to the next game with Shorecrest (3-0-2, 5-1-2).”

The teams meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Shoreline Stadium.
