Unable to generate much offense, it was two-and-through for the Oak Harbor High School softball team at the District 1 Tournament Tuesday, May 17, at Everett’s Phil Johnson Fields.

The eighth-seeded Wildcats lost to top-seeded Meadowdale 12-0 and fifth-seeded Mountlake Terrace 2-0.

The Wildcats finished the season with a 5-17 record; Oak Harbor won only two games in each of the previous two seasons.

One of the Wildcats’ wins this spring was an 11-2 upset of Meadowdale last month, the Mavericks’ first lost after beginning 2016 with 12 wins.

The Mavericks (19-3) avoided a second upset by putting the Wildcats away early, scoring seven runs in the first inning and five in the second.

Meadowdale’s defense was led by a strong pitching performance by Lauren Dent. Dent gave up only one hit, walked none and struck out 10 — seven in a row at one point.

Audrey Howard singled for Oak Harbor with one out in the fifth inning and then was picked off first as Dent faced the minimum number of batters.

Meadowdale defeated Marysville-Pilchuck 12-0 later in the day and will play Everett for the district title Thursday.

Mountlake Terrace (13-11), which beat the ‘Cats 10-0 April 15, used two-out doubles to score single runs in the third and fifth innings to edge by Oak Harbor in a loser-out game.

Back-to-back doubles plated the third-inning run, then in the fifth, a double and single added the second run.

Oak Harbor rapped only four hits and moved only two runners into scoring position in the game.

Taylor Heidt singled twice for the Wildcats, and Alexa Findley and Howard each collected a base hit.

Trica Sarns pitched six-hitter with four strikeouts and three walks.
