Oak Harbor High School softball team crushed Squalicum 19-9 Thursday, March 21, in Bellingham to earn its first win.

The Wildcats scored four or more runs in four different innings and led by as many as 13 runs to stroll to the nonconference win.

Oak Harbor led 15-2 in the fifth and was about to 10-run the Storm when a real storm hit. Wind and a rain/snow/hail mix made for a tough inning and “circus-like events,” according to Oak Harbor coach Jess Boswell, as Squalicum scored six runs to prolong the game.

Emily Saar earned the pitching win and led the offense. The senior slapped three hits, including a double, and had two walks and a sacrifice.

Oak Harbor (1-2) goes to Burlington-Edison (2-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, for another nonleague game.
