The Oak Harbor High School soccer team warmed up for a showdown with Shorecrest by tipping host Arlington 2-0, thanks to a pair of goals from Gavin Stewart, in a nonleague match Friday, April 11.

The Wildcats upset Shorecrest in the district tournament last season; however, the Scots recovered, working their way through the losers’ bracket all the way to the state finals.

Again this season, Oak Harbor (3-2, 5-2-1) and Shorecrest (3-2, 6-2) are two of a handful of quality teams in the Western Conference. They meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

In the win over Arlington, the Wildcats struggled some in the first half, coach Brian Thompson said, after playing two games earlier in the week.

“But after halftime, they started working the ball well and kept better possession,” Thompson said.

Stewart’s goals were assisted by Caley Powers and Alex Krantz.
