Trisha Wieber has been selected as the new Oak Harbor High School girls basketball coach, replacing Brett McLeod who resigned recently after eight years at the helm.

This will be Wieber’s first head-coaching position. She served as an assistant coach at Spokane’s University High School for three years, and then she moved to her alma mater, West Valley High School, and worked there several years and progressed from freshman coach to junior varsity coach to varsity assistant.

Wieber said, “My approach is very fundamental.” She added that a team strong in fundamentals can play any style.

Wieber prefers an “in-your-face” defense and a fast break offense.

She will meet with the members of the team for the first time Wednesday, May 19.

She has already inquired about several team camps and is firming up the summer schedule for her new team.

Oak Harbor High School athletic director Nicki Luper said, “We selected Trisha based on the fact that we had a very clear picture of what she would bring to the program and how she would interact with players. She has a strong belief in teaching fundamentals to build the foundation of a solid program that will allow the team to execute on the court. She is passionate about the game and will be a good role model for our girls basketball team.”
