WGC 5-person tournament ends in 3-way tie

It was close. So close, if fact, three teams tied for first in the Whidbey Golf Club Five-person Best Ball Tournament Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27.

In all, the top 10 teams finished within five strokes.

It was the first time the tournament ended in a three-way tie, according to WGC pro David Phay.

“We had beautiful weather and a tough course,” he added. The winning score of 390 was “the highest since I have been here.”

The teams of Bryan Pederson, Carilyn Pederson, Mike Ryan, Carol Ryan and Ted Miller; Mike Falk, Jim Jermyn, Bob Tracy, Riley Dunn and Chris Degrazia; and Sean Hall, Mike Seek, Todd Peterson, Dirk Curtis and Brett Curtis shared the crown.

The three teams also finished 1-2-3 (192, 193, 194) in Sunday’s Honey Pot competition and joined the 400 Club, along with Mike Johnson, Shaun Johnson, Nick Johnson, Joe Beatty and Austin Beatty, who finished fourth in the tournament with a 392.

Placing fifth at 393 were Nick Vu, Bryan Hillman, Stewart Smith, Josh Noda and Andy Gasow.

Three teams tied for sixth at 394: Mike Horrobin, Greg Hamming, Brian Wasinger, Ryan Elvebak and Glenn Smith; Scott Nelson, Greg Hall, Mickey Brusco, Kelly Smith and Stan Smith; and Roger Pierce, Doug Pierce, Donnie Pierce, Tom Ford and Andy Wesley.

Ninth place also produced at tie at 395: Todd Robinson, Chris Robinson, Steven Robinson, Joel Peterson and Jim Boyle; and Arik Dahlen, Willie Sprague, Mike Lacey, Dave Smith and Eric Schelling.
