The Oak Harbor High School girls volleyball team jumped to a good start with a 3-1 win at Mariner in the first match of 2010.

The Wildcats slipped by the Marauders 28-26, 25-17, 18-25, 25-12.

Oak Harbor was able to salvage the win in the first game even though it committed 15 unforced errors, according to coach Kerri Molitor. She said, “I am surprised we pulled if off.”

Molitor added, “The second game was much better. Overall, we served really tough and hustled on defense.”

Christina Alexander came off the bench to give the Wildcats a spark with “some great digs,” according to Molitor. Kelsey Cooley also had a strong defensive match with 25 digs.

Katelyn Bristow led the offense with 11 kills while Cooley added at least five aces, according to Molitor. She also noted the strong play of setter Jordan Faralan and the overall performance of Bristow.

Molitor said, “We are still struggling with unforced errors, which will make a difference in many of our matches. I am looking forward to our match at Shorecrest tomorrow (Thursday at 7 p.m.) and the Yakima tournament this weekend. I’m still moving players around and seeing what they can do in different positions.”
