Lakewood put a damper on Senior Night for the Coupeville volleyball team by defeating the Wolves 3-0 Tuesday, Oct. 26.

The 25-21, 25-17, 25-16 loss to Lakewood (10-4) dropped the Wolves’ final regular season records to 4-10 and 5-10. Saturday at 11 a.m. Coupeville opens sub-district play at Lynden Christian against Meridian.

Coupeville coach Toni Crebbin said there “were tears before the game” and the emotions, along with some of the players being “under the weather” as a bug is working its way through the team, may have contributed to the Wolves’ performance.

Crebbin said, “We didn’t play our best – poor passing, poor serving. It was more our mistakes than them being a dominate team.”

The Wolves hit well when they got the chance, Crebbin said, but poor serve receive limited the opportunities.

Crebbin lauded the play of Hannah Christensen who had four kills, four aces and one stuff block. Crebbin added that Christensen “also got her hands on a lot of hits” that slowed the Cougars’ attack.

Kyra Ilyankoff and Jessica Riddle each had five kills to aid Christensen in the Coupeville offense.
