Oak Harbor’s Olivia Tungate competed in eight events at the USA Swimming Winter Junior Championships in Austin, Texas, Dec. 9-12.

Tungate, a sophomore at Oak Harbor High School, was only one of nine female swimmers from the Pacific Northwest Region to qualify for the meet, which featured the top 18-and-under athletes from the western United States.

Competing for the King Aquatic Club based out of Federal Way, Tungate, 15, placed 60th in the 200 backstroke (2:02.91), 65th in the 200 butterfly (2:07.93), 74th in the 100 backstroke (56.81) and 116th in the 100 fly (58.14).

She also swam on four KAC relay teams, placing 19th in the 4×50 medley relay (1:45.18), 20th in the 4×100 medley relay (3:49.42) and 26th in the 4×100 freestyle relay (3:31.61). The 4×50 free team was disqualified.
