Track: Ramos wins long jump in day 1 of district meet

Finals were held in five boys events and four girls events; titles will be decided in the other events Friday, May 20, at 5 p.m.

Ramos soared 16-05.75 for the win. Teammate Katelyn Bristow placed eighth (15-05).

Janelle Yoshimoto took third in the javelin (104-10), and Elizabeth Akins eighth in the discus (90-08).

In the only running event final, Christina Wicker (11:47.53) and Abby Leete (12:00.82) went 6-7 in the 3,200.

Ramos and Yoshimoto earned spots in next week’s state meet at Mount Tahoma High School. The top three in each event at district advance.

On the boys side, Matt Reith was sixth in the 1,600 (4:33.81), Denzel Massey sixth in the high jump (5-06) and Josh McVey seventh in the pole vault (11).

The Oak Harbor girls are tied for third in the team standings with 23 points; the boys are ninth in the 11-team meet with 8.
