Coupeville’s Jai’Lysa Hoskins captured first in three events in a three-team track meet at Lakewood Friday, April 29, and Tyler King placed in the top three twice at the prestigious Shoreline Invitational Saturday, April 30.
Lakewood won both the boys and girls meet last Friday while the Wolves placed third. In boys action, the Cougars topped Sultan and Coupeville 115-41-11, and in girls 81-58-41.
Two of Coupeville’s top-scoring boys, King and Hunter Hammer, did not compete at Lakewood as the prepared for the Shoreline meet.
At Lakewood, Hoskins won the 100 (13.5) and 400 (1:05.8) and teamed with Anna Bailey, Nicole Becker and Grace LaPoint to win the 4×200 relay (1:05.67).
Madison Tisa-McPhee won both hurdle races (100, 17.32; 300, 51.45) and was fifth in the 200 (29.13).
Kyra Ilyankoff took the javelin (117-10) and was third in the shot put (31-08).
LaPoint finished second in the 400 (1:06.41) and fourth in the javelin (85).
Other top six finishes came from Bailey (third, 400, 1:08.87), Joye Jackson (third, 800, 3:05.52), Cassidi Rosenkrance (fourth, 400, 1:10.31) and Sarah Goodman (fifth, 800, 3:11.38).
Mitch Pelroy paced the boys at Lakewood with a win in the 100 (11.62) and a second in the 200 (23.51).
Other top-six finishes were recorded by Jake McCormick (third, 3,200, 12:22.31), Dylan Ritchie (fourth, shot, 30-01; fifth, discus, 82-01), Sam Landau (fifth, 1,600, 5:07.17; sixth 800, 2:43.53) and Stephen Edwards (sixth, 400, 1:03.39).
At Shoreline, Coupeville entered two athletes and placed 21st out of 83 teams with 13 points.
King finished second in the 1,600 (4:12.97) to White River’s Marcus Dickson (4:12.76); their times are best in the state this spring.
King placed third in the 3,200 (9:21.67). Meron Simon of Federal Way (9:07) and Nate Brennard of Olympia (9:13.08) went 1-2. King’s time is the 10th best in the state, Simon’s second and Brennard’s fourth.
King was the only runner among the leaders to compete in both the 1,600 and 3,200.
Hammer placed 11th in the shot put (48-00.5) won by Roosevelt’s Brian Hutchinson (58-08) and was 14th in the discus (135-07) won by Anacortes’ Nick Majeske (163-03).
Coupeville closes out the regular season at Granite Falls with Sultan Thursday, May 5, at 4 p.m.
The Cascade Conference meet is May 11 and 13.
